Rootstocks
Pyrodwarf® – Calcareous tolerant Cyrus rootstocks
Pyrodwarf®(S) is a Pyrus communis clone from the cross “Gute Luise” x “Old Home”, which was created at the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences.
Pyrodwarf®(S) is particularly suitable for sites where quince rootstocks cause problems.
Its growth is weaker than pear seedling, similar to quince BA29 and quince A.
Pyrodwarf®(S) does not match Quince C in terms of yield height and specific yield. Yield starts early with weak growth on dry sites.
The advantages of Pyrodwarf®(S) lies in its very good winter hardiness and its insensitivity to lime-induced chlorosis. The stability is good.
As a pear type, Pyrodwarf®(S) has good compatibility with all pear varieties, so that intermediate grafting is not necessary.
Pyrodwarf®(S) is recommended for locations that are unsuitable for quince rootstocks and should be combined with large-fruited varieties.
