Rootstocks for small fruit trees

In the alliance of 9 German nurseries we take care of licensing. In close cooperation with our licensee network we organize production and distribution of rootstocks for dwarfing fruit trees.

The aim is the practical evaluation of extensive breeding material and the worldwide introduction of the best clones

into modern fruit growing.

Our rootstocks

offer advantages such as smaller trees, denser planting, easier harvesting and early and fast yields.

The PiKU® rootstocks are characterized by their different growth reduction. They have proven particularly successful in dry and sandy locations, which enables a faster yield and good fruit size.

Cherry rootstocks for sandy soils

Pyrodwarf® is a vegetatively propagated Pyrus communis rootstock that is particularly suitable for the cultivation of pears and quinces. Its excellent winter hardiness and insensitivity to lime-induced chlorosis make it an ideal choice for fruit growers.

Calcium-tolerant Pyrus rootstocks

Malia® is a rootstock that has been specially developed to counteract the challenges of apple proliferation. It is a reliable solution to this widespread problem and promises a sustainable and high-yielding future for apple cultivation.

Proliferation resistant apple rootstocks

Refia® is a pear decline resistant Pyrus rootstock with excellent orcharding properties. It has been carefully developed and tested to meet the requirements of fruit growing worldwide.

Pear decline resistant pyrus rootstocks

Wavit®Prudom(S) is a vegetatively propagated type with excellent  fruitgrowing properties. It combines the well-known positive characteristics of “Wangenheim's seedling” with good fruit size and the advantages of a vegetatively propagated clonal rootstock.

Rootstocks for apricots and plums

For intensive sweet cherry cultivation in temperate climates, GiSelA® rootstocks are the first successful and economically significant dwarfing rootstocks to emerge from a breeding program at the University of Giessen.

Challenges for Moldovan nurseries:
Acclimatation stress with imported rootstocks

Moldovan nurseries have difficulties adapting imported rootstocks to local climatic conditions, which leads to growth stagnation due to acclimatization stress. Johannes Feldmann, Managing Director of the Consortium Deutscher Baumschulen GmbH, visited the country as part of the OPTIM project to offer support.

Local production of the rootstock series GiSelA® and Wavit® was discussed as a possible solution to improve adaptation to local conditions and reduce costs. Andrei Ciobanu, a local nursery owner, emphasized the importance of this initiative for the industry.
